Puppy Preschool!

"Early learning and socialization for you and your puppy."

When: Your puppy's optimal age to learn is birth through 16 weeks of age. We recommend starting classes as early as 8 weeks of age, but no later than 16 weeks of age. If the puppy is a small breed dog (toy poodle, pug, etc.), they may join the class up until 6 months of age.

Who: The whole family is welcome to come and participate in the class. Singles are invited to bring a friend. If you are planning to bring children, please remember that this is like school for your puppy; and we ask that the children are at least 5 years of age so that they will not be a distraction to you or the other puppies. If you need to bring younger children, please call the instructor.

Where: Bloomington Veterinary Hospital at 8830 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55420-2740.

Why: Our vision is to enrich the lives of pets and people. To help aid in completing this vision we want to promote a better understanding of canine behavior, thereby strengthening the bond between you and your puppy. We also want to help develop a well-behaved puppy that accepts human leadership.

What Will My Puppy and I Learn: Your puppy will be exposed to simple commands such as: Sit, Down, Stay, Stand, Wait and Come. He/she will also learn good behavior techniques while on a leash. You will learn how to show your puppy who is boss. On week 5 of the course, your puppy will be exposed to an obstacle course complete with: A-Frame, Teeter-Totter, Tunnel, Jump and Weave Poles. Your puppy will also be exposed to different puppies of all different sizes and colors and to different people of all different shape and sizes. In addition we will also be covering basic health concerns, such as Nutrition, Vaccines, Heartworm, and other topics to help your puppy live a long and healthy life.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Your puppy must have his/her initial vaccinations, the first Distemper Combo, as approved by your veterinarian.

  2. Only healthy puppies may attend class. If your puppy is not feeling well, please do not bring him/her. If you miss a class, the instructor will help you catch up with the rest of the class.

  3. Please complete a puppy preschool registration form.
  4. The registration fee must be paid at the front desk prior to joining the class. Please bring your registration form down to class with you on your first night.

Program Schedule and Fee: Enrollment is simple. Just contact any of our Veterinarians, technicians, or client relations staff and we'll help you sign up your puppy for the next class. The classes are held weekly from 6-7 pm and last for 5 weeks. The registration fee is $70.00. This fee includes all handout, and help aides in improving the classes for future puppies.
