History of Bloomington Veterinary Hospital
After he was seriously injured in an accident in November 1997, Dr. William H. Sweeney sold his share of Bloomington Veterinary Hospital, PA, to his brother, Dr. James A. Sweeney; with Dr. James A. Sweeney becoming 100% owner of Bloomington Veterinary Hospital. Mission StatementAn AAHA Certified Hospital, Bloomington Veterinary Hospital, P.A., is dedicated to providing superior medical service through the utilization of technology and specialists, continuing education of veterinarians and staff, and a genuine concern for the welfare of our patients and clients. We are committed to the improvement of the human-animal relationship in our community through preventive medicine and client education, as well as treatment of disease. We strive to provide the highest quality medical care for each patient and individual attention to each of our client's concerns. Dr. James A. SweeneyDr. James A. Sweeney received his Doctor of Veterinary medicine from Iowa State University in 1964. Following his graduation, Dr. Sweeney spent three years in a mixed practice at the Veterinary Medical Center in Greendale, WI. In 1967, Dr. Sweeney was convinced that small animal practice was what he enjoyed the most, so he began his own small animal practice in Brookfield, WI. In 1970, Dr. Sweeney sold his Wisconsin practice in order to join his brother in Minnesota as partner and director of the Bloomington Veterinary Hospital, PA. Dr. James A. Sweeney has served on the Animal Health Technology Program Advisory Committee at the University of Minnesota Technical College, Waseca, MN; on the Bloomington Board of Health; the Board of Directors for PRI; and the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Sweeney is also one of the founders of the Twin Cities Faith and Light Community, part of Jean Vanier's International L'Arche Movement. AVMA HONOR: On July 24, 2004, the American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) honored Dr. James A. Sweeney for his years of dedicated service and commitment to the veterinary profession by placing his name on the AVMA Honor Roll. Dr. Sweeney was honored at the General Session of the 141st AVMA annual convention in Philadelphia. AAHA AWARD: In April 2004, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) honored Dr. Sweeney and Bloomington Veterinary Hospital for its 25-year commitment to excellence in small animal care. Bloomington Veterinary Hospital has been an AAHA member since 1979. The hospital has undergone regular evaluations by AAHA practice consultants who visit hospitals to ensure compliance with AAHA's rigid standards in many areas of practice, from surgery to diagnostic imaging. EMPLOYER OF YEAR: Partnership Resources, Inc. (PRI), awarded Dr. James A. Sweeney and Bloomington Veterinary Hospital the Employer of the Year award. This award recognizes BVH for providing an exemplary work environment, and for providing a meaningful, integrated workplace for its clients. |
