Doctors

Dr. James Sweeney grew up on a farm near Dubuque, Iowa. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1964. Following graduation Dr. Sweeney practiced medicine in Greendale, Wisconsin at the Veterinary Medical Center. In 1967 he opened his own small animal practice in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Dr. Sweeney moved to Minneapolis in 1970 to join his brother Dr. Bill Sweeney as director of Bloomington Veterinary Hospital. Currently, Dr. James Sweeney is sole owner and continues to enjoy practicing medicine for his clients at Bloomington Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Sweeney and his wife Lois have a family of 4 children and 6 grandchildren.

Dr. Evans is a 2000 graduate of Michigan State University CVM. He was an associate veterinarian at Bloomington Vet for 3 years until leaving to pursue additional training at the Ontario Veterinary College. In 2004 he returned to Minnesota to rejoin the Bloomington Vet team. Dr. Evans is a member of the AVMA and the Emergency Critical Care Society. His professional interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery as well as cardiology. In his personal time he enjoys reading, video games and ice hockey. Dr. Evans currently resides in South St. Paul with his wife Emily and their furry children. (6 cats, a big silly golden retriever named Wally and a boston terrier Statler!)

Dr. Shauna Voss grew up Rockford, MN. She attended the University of Minnesota, Morris where she received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. After graduating, she worked for 3 years in a cardiovascular research laboratory at the University of Minnesota. In 2004, Dr. Voss graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine and began working at Bloomington Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Voss currently lives in Minneapolis with her cat, Ollie. In her free time, she enjoys running (Dr. Voss has finished 8 marathons!), canoeing, camping, playing the french horn in the Star of the North community band, and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Bobbi Soule was born in St. Paul, and raised in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She attended undergraduate school at the University of Notre Dame, where she received her Bachelor of Science in 2000. While at Notre Dame Dr. Soule was a member of the marching band. She graduated in 2004 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School. Dr. Soule has worked at Bloomington Veterinary Hospital since 2004. She lives with her 3 cats, Koa, James and Maddie, her Labrador Retriever, Mason, and last but not least, her fiance, Dave. When not at work, she enjoys fishing, camping, snowboarding, playing piano, and anything to do with football.

Dr. O’Brien is a 1986 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She began her career at BVH in 1992, where she was a valued staff veterinarian for 9 years before leaving to pursue an interest in surgery. In 2004 she returned to BVH with special interests in dermatology and surgery. She lives in St. Paul at a convent with 8 sisters and a bichon named Andrea. When not at work she enjoys reading, walking, praying, and playing cards.

Dr. Everly grew up in Clinton, IA. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Ecology. Following graduation, Dr. Everly worked as a zookeeper in South Dakota, and enjoyed the oceans and mountains while living Seattle. In addition, she worked as an assistant/technician at veterinary clinics in Missouri and Minnesota, where her experience with and interest in veterinary medicine continued to grow. She returned to Iowa in 2003, where she enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, and graduated in 2007. In her spare time, Dr. Everly enjoys traveling, reading, scuba diving, camping and spending time wither her furry ‘kids’: cats - Zipper, Snap; and dogs - Magnet and Latch.
